Synopsis for "...For the Children!"

Believing his aggressive methods too disruptive, Bishop finds Professor X and offers to resign, but the professor refuses. At a Catholic school 60 miles north, former Xavier’s School nurse Sharon Friedlander is ambushed and killed by a squad of new Acolytes. In the Danger Room, Jean Grey and Archangel put Bishop and Gambit through an obstacle course to get them to work together. In Central Park, Charlotte Jones meets with Xavier and Storm to share a coroner’s report. Xavier telepathically senses Sharon’s death and orders the X-Men to investigate immediately. Upstate, Sharon’s partner and school bus driver Tom Corsi approaches the Catholic school with a bus full of kids but stops when he sees the school is deserted. The school explodes, and the Acolytes appear, intent on recruiting a mutant boy aboard the bus. Having been assigned by Xavier to protect the boy, Corsi shoots and kills one Acolyte. The Acolyte Unuscione is about to kill him with her psionic exoskeleton when the X-Men arrive. The Acolyte Cargill tackles Bishop and Gambit, and Jean recognizes her as the former mercenary Frenzy. Archangel is blasted into a nearby pond, but Jean overpowers Unuscione, Bishop fights the Kleinstock brothers, and Gambit bests Cargill. Unuscione grabs the mutant boy and sees he has Down’s syndrome. Disgusted, she orders him killed along with the other children. The Kleinstocks destroy the bus with an energy blast, but Archangel and Gambit manage to save the kids. Storm arrives and puts out the burning wreckage of the bus with rain, but the Acolytes escape. That night, Xavier watches TV news coverage of the incident, including Senator Kelly’s use of it to justify his anti-mutant rhetoric.
